As someone who has dedicated much of my life to serving the citizens and the city of Denver, both as a ward council member and as an at-large representative, I know what it takes to represent the entire city: strength, compassion, collaboration, and accountability. Alfredo Reyes is the right leader for this moment. It’s time for the next generation to take the reins. Denver faces difficult budget decisions and important decisions about its growth, and that requires sound judgment and deep roots in this city. Alfredo has both, and he has my full support to be our next at-large council member!

Alfredo Reyes was eighteen years old when the Sandos family awarded him a Hispanic Annual Salute scholarship in 2008. My mother, Ethel Sandos, shook his hand that day, recognized his work ethic and commitment to volunteerism, and told him, “I don’t know when, but I have a feeling I’m going to be voting for you one day.” My mother is no longer with us, but the day she spoke of has come. My family has always believed in service to this city. My father, Sam Sandos, was the first Latino elected to Denver City Council, and I later served in the at-large seat myself. That is the tradition I see Alfredo carrying forward. I am proud to mentor and endorse Alfredo Reyes for City Council At-Large. Please join me in supporting him.

The westside fought for generations to be heard. Alfredo Reyes helped turn that fight into policy: he co-authored the River Sisters framework now woven into Denver’s West Area Plan, protection for our river, our air, and our families, in the city’s own blueprint. Now we need him at the table where those promises get kept. He has my endorsement, con todo corazón.

I have known Alfredo since he was a high school student and have had a chance to witness his professional and personal growth and can’t think of a better candidate for Denver City Council. Alfredo knows better than anybody what it takes to achieve success and his passion for the city of Denver will only be an asset to the entire city council. Alfredo’s integrity, intellect, and ability to execute an idea are rare in any generation. I watched him build the Latino Cultural Arts Center from a dream our community carried for decades into a home that will outlast us all. I am so grateful that Alfredo Reyes has decided to embrace this opportunity to run for City Council At-Large. His leadership continues to open the doors of opportunity for everyone to feel empowered and participate in building a vibrant, creative and thriving Denver. I witnessed him do this as executive director for the Latino Cultural Arts Center when he took the helm and started immediately building a vision for arts, education and inclusive communities through the LCAC capital campaign. Denver is lucky to have leaders like Alfredo, who show up and reflect the passions, interests and commitment to communities across the state and beyond. The arts will have a voice with Alfredo, the economy will have a voice with Alfredo, the community will have a voice with Alfredo, and all of our collective interests will be heard.

Alfredo Reyes is an extraordinary community leader, and I have had the pleasure of watching his growth and impact over the last several years. It would be a huge asset to have a leader in City Council who deeply understands the value of culture in all its manifestations in building the kind of Denver where all can flourish. I support Alfredo Reyes as I believe in his vision for governance, budget management, and preserving Denver’s cultural history. I trust his experience in bringing resources to community and being honest about the difficulties our city faces. As an organizer who has helped shape crisis response, mental health services, and transforming safety in Colorado and beyond, it’s important to me that we elect leaders who will confront Denver’s greatest struggles by looking at systemic root causes and working toward transformative solutions, and I am happy to endorse Alfredo Reyes as one such leader.

Our region’s greatest opportunities in housing, public safety, transit, and infrastructure, do not stop at city lines, and neither should our leadership.
