My roots
Raised in Baker
This seat is nonpartisan and I intend to keep it that way, because I work for the whole city, all of us, at large. I’m not Team Red. I’m not Team Blue. I am Team Denver.
I am the son of Aurora and Juventino, Mexican immigrants who taught me how to build a good life: with patience, with your hands, and with the people beside you.
I was born and raised on the Westside. My parents came here with nothing, became homeowners, and inspired me to believe an education would set me free. They immigrated and worked themselves tired so I could stand in rooms they were never invited into.
Work hard, be a good neighbor, and you’ll make it here. That’s the deal we were sold. It’s what my parents believed. And I don’t think Denver has kept its promise. I’m running to change that.
My education
Educated by this city
Denver Public Schools, class of South High (Go South!). A Gates Millennium Scholar at Colorado College and CU Boulder, then three years in a PhD program studying how communities change. I missed my parents, and after years of studying community from afar, I wanted to come home and build one in concrete and steel.

My build
Came home to build
Leading a coalition that inspired the Latino Cultural Arts Center, we turned a grassroots vision into a permanent cultural home. In Fall 2026 it becomes a launchpad for families and the next generation of mental health, environmental, and creative leaders.

I’m not asking you to take my word for it. When I see a problem, I fix it. I’ve already built, in this city, on the scale this position demands.

Accountability written into law
On the Denver Citizen Oversight Board, I helped pass a new ordinance that subjects police misconduct settlements to public scrutiny: a permanent change in how the city answers to the people it serves.

A framework adopted for the river
I co-authored the “River Sisters” framework, adopted in the West Area Plan in 2023: community-driven planning for parks, flood resilience, and opportunity along the South Platte.

A cultural center, built and funded
I led the coalition behind the Latino Cultural Arts Center: seven years, $8 million raised for construction and another $3 million for operations and programs, and a permanent home for our community’s culture.

Now I’m asking to deepen my commitment
Today I’m a proud Harvey Park homeowner, running for City Council At-Large the way I intend to serve: powered by neighbors, answering only to you. What works in Baker might not work in Harvey Park, and I won’t pretend one plan fixes every neighborhood. But every solution I’m bringing is a council power, not a wish. As your city council member, I will fight for the family that wants to stay, the small business ready to grow, and the kid who deserves a future here.
And I’ll tell you the kind of leader I am. Not the one who thinks he is the smartest person in the room, and never one who pits developers against the community, or either against the workers. Denver moves when its four forces move together: community, labor, business, and government. I will listen across difference, learn across difference, and lead across difference. I’ll sit with you and your neighbors, even when we disagree, and take your concerns to council with your names on them. Let’s take care of our home.
