We Packed the Pavilion

A packed pavilion at City Park for the Reyes for Denver campaign kickoff

We kicked off this campaign with a prayer in the heart of City Park.

Standing in that room were people from every chapter of my life. My family. Childhood friends. High school and college mentors and femtors. Neighbors. Partners and collaborators. Every corner of the city was represented, and everyone came with ideas for a thriving Denver. That is what At-Large should look like.

Moments like these fill my heart with love, humility, and gratitude. A special thank you to everyone who joined me, and to Chef Edwin Sandoval and the Xatrucho team for a delicious meal.

Every corner of the city

The last two weeks have been filled with new experiences and organizing. I fanned out across the city, from lowrider shows in Southwest Denver to yard sign drops in every direction. Barnum and Villa Park on the west. Sunnyside on the north. Park Hill and Hilltop on the east. Virginia Village, Washington Park, and Bonnie Brae on the south.

That same stretch led me to pray inside a mosque in Five Points for the first time. It was enlightening, and it will stay with me forever.

These are neighborhoods that rarely end up in the same sentence, let alone the same campaign. That is the point of running At-Large.

Canvass teams and volunteer crews are forming now. Sign up and we’ll pair you with a team in your part of the city.

Put us back in the Fair Elections Fund

A quick update on the Fair Elections Fund: the November special election counts as a new race, so the qualifying count starts over. We are halfway there, at 50 of the 100 Denver donors we need, with a September 4 deadline.

If you live in Denver, your first $50 is matched nine to one, turning fifty dollars into five hundred. Any amount counts toward the 100, even $5. If you gave earlier this year, thank you, and I am asking again. Chip in at secure.actblue.com/donate/reyes100.

Onward to City Council. Juntos. Together.
